Buy versus Speculative Buy

It’s all to do with the risk rating

Buy: This is a quality Small Cap company with a strong track record that we recommend to buy.

Spec Buy: These are company’s that we like to buy but they have a certain risk associated with an investment. It may be that it is a mining stock, with a single mine so if there is a problem or a delay with the mine, the stock will suffer. Or a medical technology company in an early stage of development or with a drug/technology waiting for approval. We recommend only a handful of these stocks in a balanced portfolio.

What do I do?

Take Profits: It’s a stock that has performed well and has had a significant jump in share price.

Depending on your personal circumstances/ how many shares you hold/ how big a percentage it takes up of your portfolio, you can take your costs out and let your profits run, or you could sell your holdings and go and celebrate your success.
